There are a few elements to our brief. Given we’ve renovated before and have had a few months to spend at the house we have a pretty solid brief for what we want from the space, particularly the renovation to the existing home. This should hopefully cut down on the amount of time our architect spends on layout giving him more time to spend on those special architectural features that will turn our home into something special.
I’ve split the brief for our architect into 4 main components;
- Style: overall style for the house. This should give a guide to what type of look/feel we are after. Aside from the thousand screen shots on my phone, I’ve started storing a lot of images on the Inspiration page.
- Features: things I’ve found that I love and would be great to include. These may or may not be helpful for our architect but serve as a bookmark for me to come back to when we’re detailing the interiors. Wide window sills, window seats, air curtain, laser cut door/feature, natural light/skylights, wide blackbutt floorboards.
- Mandatories: specific details we think are ‘must haves’ brief to the architect includes. Bathroom specs (main bathroom minimum 3.5 x 4.5m, no shower screen, large window/natural light) wardrobe sizes for bedrooms, butlers pantry, serving window etc.
- Mood Board: who doesn’t love a good mood board!
